Cat Life Maine is a 100% volunteer, foster-based, boots-on-the-ground rescue focused on the cats most people overlook — community cats, colony cats, and kittens with nowhere else to go.

About Cat Life Maine

Like any good story worth telling, Cat Life Maine began with one cat.

Her name was Ferrah — a kitten found in my driveway, born into a feral cat colony that was being worked on in my neighborhood. Through Ferrah, I was introduced to the world of Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). I learned how to trap, how to fix cats humanely, and why returning them to their outdoor homes was often the kindest option.

I never looked back.

As I learned more, I began trapping on my own and quickly realized how overwhelming this work can be — emotionally, physically, and financially. To help cover the cost of supplies, vet care, and food, I started a small online business. Every dollar went back into helping cats in my community.

For seven years, TNR was my focus. Then I met Mufasa.

Mufasa came from a colony where I had already relocated 13 cats. I had exhausted every resource I had — financially and emotionally. When Mufasa needed help, I struggled to find anyone who could take him. There were no funds left. No safe place for him to land. No clear answer.

That moment changed everything.

It became painfully clear that TNR alone was not enough. Some cats are too sick, too injured, or too vulnerable to be returned outside — and there were limited options for them. Just as importantly, I realized we were asking too much of caretakers: the people who feed these cats every single day, in every kind of weather, often at their own expense, with little to no support.

We needed to do more than fix cats.
We needed to support the humans who never stop showing up for them.
We needed somewhere for the cats who couldn’t go back outside.

That is why Cat Life Maine was created.

Today, Cat Life Maine is a 100% volunteer-run, foster-based rescue focused on community cats, colony care, rescue, and adoption. We don’t just trap and walk away — we stay.

We provide spay/neuter, medical care, food support, foster placement, and education so cats and caretakers aren’t left behind.

Our mission is simple, but not easy:
To end preventable suffering and give every cat a place to belong.

Ferrah opened the door.
Mufasa showed us the gaps.
Cat Life Maine exists to fill them.
